Martha.

I was asked to be a part of Beauty Week on Martha Stewart.  This came as a shock as I had been told by the producers that they don’t really do a lot of beauty segments and when they DO do them, they bring in the big guns like Bobbi (and in Brown) and Laura (as in Mercier) so I was pretty excited when I got the call.  They didn’t really know how they wanted to use me, so we put our heads together (my brain is always swarming with segment ideas) and came up with a fun, juicy segment that would really give some useful information.

We wanted to do a giveaway of some of my favorite products.  This was on a Friday morning.  Monday was a holiday and we needed companies to deliver 200 items to the studio by Tuesday morning.  So Friday afternoon was a series of panicked calls, emails, confirmation, interest, disinterest, going back the drawing board, picking new products, getting confirmation of original products, more emails and what I learned is that I NEVER WANT TO BE A TELEVISION PRODUCER.  This was one little segment in a much larger show and they tape twice a day.  And my segment was a simple one.  As I was leaving the studio they mentioned that tomorrow the show would be featuring *big cats* (read: tigers) that would be hanging in the studio.  Can’t imagine what kinds of calls that took to prepare.
So, in case you haven’t heard, while dear Martha is certainly beloved, she is also, shall we say, tough.  A force to be reckoned with. After a very short rehearsal, the producer came into my dressing room five minutes before I was to go out to do my thing, and put the fear of god in me.  Martha wasn’t sure about the segment, wasn’t sure about the products I choose and axed the brush cleaner I loved.  (That’s OK, Jessica Alba was there the day before and left her baby shampoo and we used that.)  While some people might have been scared (and I was) I was also much better armed and knew exactly what I needed to do to get her on my side.  It was a lot of fun and I won her over!  We just stood at her sink like the old friends that we became and washed a bunch of brushes, smelled old mascaras and talked shop ya know, Martha style.

And here are my favorite products featured!
